Does a pathology lab needs NABL accreditation?

There are close to 100,000 pathology and diagnostic labs in India. In 2009-2010, the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) announced NABL accreditation as mandatory for empanelment of laboratories. NABL received 225 applications for accreditation of medical laboratories to ISO 15189 standards.

What is required to open a pathology lab?

You need to get registered with the Shops and Establishments Act, Clinical Establishment Act if implemented in the state, Director of Health Services, Local Biomedical Waste disposal Body, Approval for waste generation from state pollution control board, Fire NOC, municipal NOC. These are the basic requirements.
