Does a lighter or heavier car handle better?

In theory, the heavier car should launch better because it has more weight pressing down on the tires. A lighter car may be able to change directions more quickly and brake better, but a heavier car should have more tire grip.

Do lighter cars corner faster?

That is the main mechanism that makes a light car with downforce faster around a corner than a heavy car. It is only the mass (of the car) that has to be “accelerated” – not the load created by downforce. The tyres too have their role in making a heavier car slower around a race track.

Does a heavier car have more grip?

Added Weight Won’t Help Traction for FWD or AWD Vehicles This increases the friction between the road and the tires on the wheels that are responsible for moving the car. More friction means more road grip. If there’s more weight in the rear, it could lighten the front too much, causing less traction there.

Do heavier cars handle snow better?
