Do you heal when you level up DnD?

A creature’s current hit points (usually just called hit points) can be any number from the creature’s hit point maximum down to 0. The passage on leveling up only refers to hit point maximum, and not current hit points, which means that characters are not healed upon leveling up.

How much health do you gain when you level up in DnD?

Each time you gain a level, you gain 1 additional Hit Die. Roll that Hit Die, add your Constitution modifier to the roll, and add the total (minimum of 1) to your hit point maximum.

In general, XP works as a system that indicates the players growing in skill as adventurers. The more XP = the higher the level. The abilities that the XP unlocks via obtaining new levels show how they learn new things as they grow.

The rules provide that XP is granted for defeating creatures, and each creature has a set XP value — the sum total of the XP for all defeated creatures in an encounter is usually divided evenly among the PCs who fought them.
