Do you have to have a roommate in the military?

At a few bases, they may be required to live on-base. Generally, on-base single officer quarters are pretty nice (sometimes they are like small apartments), and officers don’t generally have to have a roommate.

What is single soldier housing?

The Single Soldier Housing Branch oversees Fort Drum’s 7,954 permanent party barracks spaces in 56 barracks buildings. Ensure Soldiers receive the Army’s standard for quality accommodations and furnishings while enabling good order and discipline as well as unit readiness.

Can you live off base if single?

Army policy allows single members in the paygrade of E-6 and above to live off base at government expense. The Navy policy allows single sailors in the paygrades of E-5 and above, and E-4s with more than four years of service to reside off base and receive a housing allowance.

Do soldiers get their own room?

When you’ve finished your training and head to join your regiment or unit, here you can expect to be given your own room in the barracks. You’ll share a kitchen and living area, but have your own private space too. Houses are available if you have a family.

Do you have roommates in army barracks?

It depends on the circumstances and where you are. In garrison, most of the barracks have been rebuilt. It’s now common for soldiers to either have their own room or share it with a roommate, much like college dorms. Bathrooms are usually common areas to some degree.

How can a single soldier move out of the barracks?

If you are single (no dependents) you can leave the barracks when you make the rank of Staff Sergeant(E-6). If you are married rank does not matter, most units require you to be at least an NCO (E5 or higher) in order to live out of the barracks.

During basic training and initial job training, all enlisted service members are required to live in the barracks. When service members move to their permanent duty station, only single members are required to live in unaccompanied housing, or barracks.

How long does a single soldier have to live in the barracks?

Air Force requires single service members with pay grades E-4 and below and with less than three years of service to live in the barracks, or dorms as they like to call them.
