Yes. It is necessary to memorise it because the if you remember these elements then from the trends you can easily find out their physical and chemical properties.

Practically though, I have doubts that JEE could have stooped down to the level, where they do ask questions requiring rote memorization. Yes, it is necessary. At least s block, p block and d block (it’s not really difficult) There are always a bunch of questions which can be solved easily and fast only if you know the periodic table well.
