Do doors open on the left or right?
To determine the door swing while replacing an existing door, step into the doorway with your back to the hinges, standing sideways in the opening, facing the jamb where the door latches. If the open doorknob is on your right side, it’s a right-hand door. If it’s on your left side, the door is left handed.
How do you decide which way a door opens?
Stand with your back against the hinged side of the door jamb. If the door opens to your right, this is a right-handed door. If it opens to your left, it’s a left-handed door. Another easy trick is to stand facing the door on the side that swings away from you.
What’s the difference between a left hand and right hand door?

What determines left or right-handed?

Can you change a left hand door to a right hand door?
The easiest way to reverse a door is to remove the jamb, reverse the sides and re-install it. If you want the door to swing from the same side, you’ll have to change the positions of the hinge and strike insets and reverse the directions of the hinges and knob on the door.
Do bedroom doors open in or out?

Do screen doors have to be on the same side?
For instance, a right handed storm door is the same swing as a left hinged storm door, and vice versa. Now, a good rule-of-thumb is that you want the handle of the screen door to be on the same side as the entry door. That’s the way it is normally done. However, there are a few cases where this is not true.
Which side of the door do you put a keyed door handle?
The swing will determine which side of the door to put the keyed door handle on. It’s easiest to open a door handle when you have a little extra leverage to push or pull it open. We usually open doors by reaching at an angle instead of straight on. If a door has a mortise lock, handing is critical for the keyed lock installation.
