Yes, Infantry Officers do fight. However, most Officers (including Infantry) will spend most of their time in staff roles where they will not have a direct role in combat operations, but will support them.

You get to do some cool Army stuff, but not as much, but you also get to make decisions. It lasts about two years if your lucky. When that time is up, you go back to the nerdery as a staff officer. If you make Major, you will be in one staff job or another for what feels like an eternity.
