Do any birds pee?

Birds brighten our lives. The answer lies in the fact that birds, unlike mammals, don’t produce urine. Instead they excrete nitrogenous wastes in the form of uric acid, which emerges as a white paste. And uric acid doesn’t dissolve in water easily.

Do pet birds pee?

Your pet parrot does urinate, but a bird’s urinary system is quite different and more complex than a mammal’s. A parrot’s urinary tract produces urine and uric acid, does not have a bladder, and has a single opening for poop and pee, which are usually excreted together.

Like chickens and ducks, geese don’t “pee”, but instead their droppings are a combination of solid and liquid, combined before they exit the goose’s body. This is partly because flying birds (although domestic chickens, ducks and geese don’t fly!), can’t afford to carry any excess water weight/urine.

Do penguins pee?

They don’t perspire and only excrete uric acid, a white paste-like, poor in water and concentrated waste. They don’t urinate like mammals because this would be a waste of water.

What colour is bird pee? Unlike the typical yellow-amber colour of normal urine in mammals, birds’ pee is white. Whilst mammals excrete nitrogenous wastes mainly in the form of urea, birds convert it to uric acid or guanine.

Can an owl pee?

Yes, cockatiels and all birds do urinate. Their urinary and intestinal tracts empty into an organ called the “cloaca”. Feces and urine are then elimated together as the brown/white dropping everyone is familiar with; brown being fecal matter and white being the urates.
