Can you use any grease on brake pads?

Use special grease for ceramic brake pad assemblies But they don’t dissipate heat as well, and that high heat can degrade the grease in caliper and pad slides. So it’s critical that you use synthetic high-temp brake pad grease to lubricate the caliper pins, pad abutments and pad slide hardware.

Is brake grease silicone based?

Sil-Glyde® Brake Lubricant is a silicone-based brake lubricant recommended for the entire brake assembly, is compatible with plastic and rubber (EPDM & Nitrile), and dampens vibrations between contact points. Its long-lasting properties provide a noise-free brake installation and easy disassembly.

Where do you apply silicone brake grease?

Super Lube® Silicone Lubricating Brake Grease should be used at every point in the brake system where parts slide or move. With disc brakes, lubrication points include: caliper slides, pins, bushings and contact points where the pads slide within the caliper housing.

Can you use lithium grease instead of brake grease?

White lithium is a low-temperature grease that can be used to lubricate drum brake hardware and backing plates, but lacks the heat-resistance for front disc brake applications. So it’s not the best choice for general brake work.

Should you put grease on new brake pads?

When installing brakes, it is important to pay attention to where you place the brake lubricant. Brake Lube ensures noise-free braking and proper system operation. Apply lubricant on caliper pins, clips, edges of the brake pad mounting tabs, and back side of the brake pads if needed.

Can I use lithium grease on brake pads?

Avoid using lithium grease on any brake parts because the seals can be damaged. Red rubber grease is perfect for any assembly of rubber seals, but the silicon disc brake specific grease can be used anywhere.

What kind of grease is brake grease?

Silicone grease can work just as efficiently as brake grease for all components of the braking system. Silicone is a great lubricant and preservative, especially on plastic and rubber surfaces. It can be found at home improvement stores and auto parts stores.

Our top recommendation is the Mission Automotive Dielectric Grease/Silicone Paste/Waterproof Marine Grease, an excellent choice for brake caliper pins, O-rings, rubber gaskets, and steering bushings with the included brush, silicone base, and safe use across all different types of brake material, including metal.

What is different about brake grease?

Can I use silicone grease on brake slider pins?

Registered. so much discussion on what to use for greasing caliper pins, have arrived at the conclusion and was recommended silicone WITH PTFE grease. Silicone is good in the presence of rubber seals on calipers & the high temps but doesn’t have the load characteristics required which the PTFE content provides.

Place a thin coat of brake pad grease onto the rear of both pads using your fingers. Make certain the entire rear of the pad is covered. Push the caliper back down and over the brake pads. Tighten the brake caliper bolts to the manufacturer’s torque specifications.

What is brake caliper grease used for?

Brake Grease can also be used to dampen vibrations between disc brake pads and caliper pistons . But it should not be applied between the pads and any noise suppression shims that may be used.
