Can you tune a 4 string bass to drop B?

You can’t really go between drop B and standard tuning. It’s not doable on electric guitar, and definitely not doable on a bass. I mean, even going from standard to D standard requires different strings. On guitar it could still be doable with the same strings.

What bass strings does flea use?

Flea uses the tried and tru formula of the GHS Bass Boomers that the world has counted on for decades. GHS Bass Boomers are a Nickel Plated Steel wrap wire with a special combination of Stainless Steel and Nickel Plate on the low E string. The unique Boomer hex core gives this string added strength.

A regular four string bass has strings tuned at E A D G, with E the lowest. How low can the E string be tuned before it becomes “unplayable”, can it go below C? Depends on the gauge… Some become sloppy when detuned to D already.

What is a standard bass tuning?

The standard tuning for a 4 string bass is E, A, D, G (the same as the four lowest strings on the guitar but one octave lower). The bass strings are tuned in fourths.

When dealing with guitar strings, ground wound is a type of string most commonly associated with bass guitars. Ground wound strings are manufactured in the same basic manner as round wound strings. After the external wraps are put around the string core, the wraps are ground smooth.

Drop C tuning is an alternative guitar tuning where at least one string has been lowered to a C, but most commonly refers to CGCFAD, which can be described as D tuning with a 6th string dropped to C, or drop D tuning transposed down a whole step.

Do you tune to drop C on your bass?

My band tunes to drop C, and we have tons of riffs that bounce off of that low C. Many of our songs would be essentially unplayable on a five string bass. There is a logical thought process to the use of altered tunings, believe it or not.

What are the best strings for bass guitar?

For metal, you can pretty much discount nickel entirely, seeing as it’s known for a quiet, mellow, vintage tone. Nickel-wound steel is the standard string construction across genres, and it certainly works for metal. Pure stainless steel, though, has a particularly bright and aggressive tone that helps your bass lines cut through the mix.

What string gauges should you pick when you’re downtuning?

Today, we’re talking a little bit about how to pick the right string gauges for when you’re downtuning on your guitar. Whether you’re going down to drop D full time or drop C, drop B, drop A, et cetera, these same principles are going to hold true for you.

What’s a good tuning for a C string ESP?

A .120 makes a decent C string IMO – you could go with a light E set above that as you’d be a whole step higher at that point. There are 4 string ESP’s with default DGCF tuning. Also, if you already have a 4 string bass, just buy a pack for 5 string and lose the G string, then you get BEAD and can easily lower it to ADGC which is UBERLOW.
