Can you trap animals in your yard?

Unfortunately, trapping is not effective. Trapping and relocating wild animals has several prerequisites to be successful. Trapping and relocating animals on your own is a temporary solution (at best) that rarely ends well for wildlife or the homeowner.

What animals are legal to trap?

Species you can trap: Tree squirrels (red, gray, fox, and southern flying), rabbits, furbearers (beaver, mink, weasel, opossum, raccoon, skunk, muskrat, badger), and woodchucks may require a hunting or trapping permit, or may require a nuisance wildlife control permit.

Is trapping legal in Australia?

Live trapping and relocating animals is often advertised as a humane solution to wildlife conflicts. In reality, it can actually be detrimental for the animal, it is not a true long-term solution, and in most cases, it is illegal. PAWS does not recommend trapping and relocating a wild animal to solve problems.

Steel-jawed rabbit traps – which snap close in a spring action – are banned under NSW animal cruelty laws. The use of the traps carry a maximum prison term of six months. “They’ve been banned in NSW for many years and this is one of the clear reasons.

Are squirrel traps legal?

Trapping is a legally acceptable and most effective way of controlling grey squirrels in most situations. A live capture trap must be used where red squirrels are present or suspected but, where there are no reds, a spring trap may be selected as the preferred method.
