Can you pray in a room with photographs?

Yes. Almost every mosque in the world has words on the walls, and many have flowers depicted in wall art. Whole pictures of living animals and people are forbidden from being on the walls, much less in front of you while praying, but words are fine.

Can you have pictures in your room in Islam?

Yes, Islam considers it haram to hang pictures of people on your walls. Statues of human figures are also haram.

It’s not permissible to keep pictures or statues of animate objects for display (e.g for decoration, beautification) as per the values of Islam. The Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said: “The angels do not enter a house in which there are pictures..”

Is it haram to draw nature?

Art in itself isn’t considered haram. It what you draw or create that is considered haram. If you are drawing nature, or lifeless objects, or even calligraphy, art is halal. In fact, it is Muslims who created these types of art.

Are illustrations Haram?

DIghtal art and illustration is not haram. HOWEVER! Drawing animate tings like people of animals is prohibited according to the Hadith. You can still draw other stuff like food or objects.

Is it allowed to pray in places with images of animate beings?

The scholars are unanimously agreed that it is not allowed to pray in a place in which there are images of animate beings. In fact some of them were of the view that doing so is haraam, although the view of the majority is that it is makrooh. Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

The idea derives from Indian and Hindu cultures. Naturally, the main purpose of the prayer room is to actually to pray, but that doesn’t mean that non-religious people shouldn’t have one. And, when you transfer these two meaning to religion, the war prayer room is a place where you can focus on the spiritual side of your life. Don’t take this the wrong way, God will listen to your prayer regardless of where you sink in them but having a quiet spot where you can speak to God does sound heavenly.

Why can’t we pray in a place where there are statues?
