Can you do both gymnastics and ballet?

Many athletes that are involved with gymnastics are involved with ballet dancing too. Both sports go hand-in-hand with each other and one can help improve the skills in the other, and vice versa. Ballet skills and gymnastic skills are not something you can just learn overnight.

Should my daughter do ballet or gymnastics?

If you had to choose to put your child in either gymnastics or dance, then you should go with dance. Gymnastics is fantastic for helping children gain strength and take risks but ultimately it is not a life long sport whereas you can dance professionally or dance just for a hobby well into old age.

Which one is better ballet or gymnastics?

Gymnasts develop a lot more upper body and core strength, as they need their arms to be as strong as their legs to do flips, lifts, and other balancing feats. Dancers focus more on their legs for strength and balance, while their arms work as an accessory for dance routines.

Are ballet and gymnastics similar?

However, gymnastics and ballet have overlapping qualities. They both involve power, grace and physical strength. Some types of gymnastics may also incorporate elements of dance. Rhythmic gymnastics, for example, combines gymnastic and dance moves that are performed to music.

Should I put my child in ballet?

The strength and flexibility offered through ballet class will help your toddler stay healthy and build the foundation of a physically active lifestyle. These benefits are invaluable, whether your kid plans to take dance classes for many years or play sports or other athletic activities.

Does tumbling help ballet?

All of these learned abilities come in handy when performing routines on bars, beam, and vault too. For dance, tumbling is useful because it can add variety to your dance routine. Throwing in an aerial or other tumbling tricks helps show the dancer’s skills too.

Can ballet ruin your feet?

Ballet can cause foot pain, injury, and in some cases, even foot damage for dancers. Ballet dancers not on pointe can also experience foot, shin, and ankle pain. If untreated, this can lead to an injury and even long-term foot damage.

Are all ballet classes created equal?

All ballet classes are not created equal. I asked around and settled on what seemed to be the most professional studio with the best training. Unfortunately, the class my daughters were placed in was underwhelming. They were losing interest.

Is age appropriate choreography still being taught in dance studios?

For anyone who has spent time in the dance world,  it’s well-known that it’s difficult to find studios that continue teaching age appropriate choreography to the 12 and older crowd. But let me remind you that my daughters are THREE and FIVE.

Is your 7 year old behaviour irrational?

After doing some research [read: crying into my wine to my friends] and interviewing parents who are currently going through this, or have already been through it, I have discovered that whether they are a 7 year old girl, or an 8 year old boy, or somewhere in between, there seem to be a typical pattern of [irrational] behaviour that they all have.
