Can you charge a battery with a lower voltage charger?
Yes it will discharge the battery if it was fully charged. The charging source will become a sink (the current will reverse direction from your battery to the “source”) to the lower voltage and the battery will eventually stay at this (insufficient) voltage level.
What happens if I charge a 12v battery with a 24v charger?
If you just plug a 12 volt a battery into a 24 volt charger it will die in a matter of hours.
Can I charge a 12 volt battery with a 6 volt charger?
No, there is not enough voltage provided by 6 volt charger to be able to charge a 12 volt battery. Depending on the batteries chemistry a 12 volt battery will actually have different “full” and “charge” voltages.
Can you charge a 12V battery with a 19V charger?
NO you cannot charge your 12V AGM battery directly with a 19V Laptop power supply. You need a battery charger. The laptop power supply IS NOT a battery charger, it is a fixed voltage SMPS power supply.
What happens if I use wrong voltage charger?
Using a charger with the wrong voltage rating can potentially damage your laptop. This is typically caused by too high voltage. But using a charger with too high current won’t damage your laptop. Using a charger with too low current rating might fry the power supply, but not the laptop.
Can you charge 2 12V batteries with a 24 volt charger?
Yes you can, especially if the two 12v batteries are identical. If they are not, you will need to be careful more regarding the state of charge. A 12v battery is actually 6 identical cells connected in series. Connecting two such batteries in series merely gives you 12 cells in series and a total voltage of 24v.
What if charger has less amps?
The amperage rating of a charger or power supply is the maximum it can supply. A device being charged will only take as much amperage as it requires. If your device needs 0.5 amps to charge, and your charger is rated at 1.0 amps, only 0.5 amps will be used. The device being charged may be damaged.
