Can you change the target of an enchantment?
Swerve can change the target of an aura spell just fine. Be careful, though because it doesn’t change the aura’s controller so your opponent will still be the one to gain life when your Armadillo Cloak creature deals damage. You can swerve auras becasue they target while they are on the stack.
Can you choose not to target MTG?
Yes, part of the process for casting a spell is to choose all legal targets. 601.2c The player announces his or her choice of an appropriate player, object, or zone for each target the spell requires.
Can you target something more than once MTG?
The same target can’t be chosen multiple times for any one instance of the word “target” on a spell or ability. If the spell or ability uses the word “target” in multiple places, the same object or player can be chosen once for each instance of the word “target” (as long as it fits the targeting criteria).
Is choose the same as Target MTG?
Some players are confused by word “choose”, but it is not a symptom of targeted spell. These are the only permanent spells with targets. An Aura’s target is specified by its enchant keyword ability (see rule 702.5, “Enchant”). The target(s) are chosen as the spell is cast; see rule 601.2c.
What can Spellskite redirect?
It can only redirect spells or abilities which can legally target it. However, it can target any spell or ability. There is nothing wrong with your opponent paying 2 life to try and change the target of your Go for the Throat, then fail to. It can only redirect spells or abilities which can legally target it.
Can Spellskite steal auras?
Yes you can redirect enchantment – auras to spellskite like splinter twin unless there is some specific stipulation on the card. You can can not redirect an opponents equipment attachment however.
Can you cast a spell without a valid target?
Casting a spell without choosing a legal target is an illegal action, and must be rewinded if attempted.
Can you cast a spell if there is no target?
If a spell has no legal targets it cannot be cast. If you’re playing lightning bolt and your opponent opens with a Leyline of Sanctity, you might as well scoop anyway. You could always bolt yourself!
Can Twinflame target the same creature twice?
From rule 114.3. 114.3 The same target can’t be chosen multiple times for any one instance of the word “target” on a spell or ability. Twinflame has the following text. Strive — Twinflame costs 2R more to cast for each target beyond the first.
Can a card target itself MTG?
A spell or ability on the stack is an illegal target for itself. This only means the ability can’t target itself, i.e. the ability itself. This is only relevant in rare cases; one example (for spells) would be that you can’t change the target of a Counterspell on the stack to itself.
Does Spellskite have to be a legal target?
Spellskite’s ability can target any spell or ability, not just a spell or ability with a target. This also means that if Spellskite has hexproof or protection from the relevant color, you won’t be able to change the target of the spell or ability either, since Spellskite would not be a legal target for it.
What if Spellskite has Hexproof?
So you are allowed to pay the costs (it’s ‘pay 2 life’ cost might be handy combined with Transcendence, for instance) but because Spellskite has Hexproof he is an illegal target; Spellskite’s ability would resolve – but have no effect – and the original target of the spell would remain targeted.
