Can you bring your dog with you to the Marines?
Companion animals will now be allowed in barracks rooms. Each Marine is limited to one animal, which may not be of the same type due to breeding concerns. Before a Marine obtains an animal to keep as a pet, they must submit a package to their command to show they are responsible enough to keep the animal.
What happens to my dog if I join the military?
You can own a dog if you live on a military base – in family housing. If you live in the barracks (dorms if you’re in the Air Force), you cannot. however, you might be able to live off base, in an apartment that allows pets. If you get deployed, someone will have to take care of your dog for you.
Does the military pay to move your pets?
The military pays for many moving costs, but it doesn’t pay to move your pets. It provides financial assistance for pet relocation costs so military families can stay together. All branches of the military can qualify for these grants, whether being relocated within the United States or anywhere in the world.
Can you take your military dog home?
Reality: When deployed, handlers and their dogs are inseparable and will stay in the same living quarters. However, when back at their U.S. base, handlers are not allowed to bring their dogs home at the end of each day, and for good reason.
Can you have a cat in Marines?
However, all residents assigned military family housing are responsible to the health, safety, and tranquility of the community must adhere to both Marine Corps policy and pet agreements established within their lease. Base housing residents may own up to two pets; dogs and/or cats.
Are pitbulls allowed on Marine Corps bases?
Now, the Marine Corps has issued the first worldwide policy banning pit bulls, Rottweilers, wolf hybrids and any dogs with “dominant traits of aggression” from all U.S. Marine Corps bases and housing facilities.

Currently, the Air Force, Army and Marine Corps all have varied discriminatory breed bans that prevent military families from having certain breeds of dogs—like American Pit Bull Terriers, Doberman Pinschers and Rottweilers—on base or in military housing.
Will the military ship my dog?
You may be eligible to ship your pet via military transport. A limit of two pets per family applies. (Waivers are possible if space is available.)
Can dogs fly on military planes?
DoD regulations allow for a maximum of two pets per family (dogs and cats only) to travel with their owners on Air Mobility Command (AMC) flights. A 14-day travel window is required. The pet is limited to a total of 99 pounds (including carrier). Pets between 71 and 99 pounds cost $160 per pet.
