Can OCD last for years?

Obsessive-compulsive symptoms generally wax and wane over time. Because of this, many individuals diagnosed with OCD may suspect that their OCD comes and goes or even goes away—only to return. I have to say, though, that I have yet to see a person that has absolutely no compulsions whatsoever.

When a person with OCD has a thought, they will likely become very concerned, wondering why on earth they would have a thought like that.

If you think the behavior is abnormal for the developmental stage, it’s important to seek help before it starts severely interfering with everyday life. According to the DSM-5, males tend to develop OCD symptoms earlier in life, but more females suffer overall.
