Can I slow down nail growth?

Slowing nail growth, could be carried out by avoiding the sun, food deprivation, limiting or avoiding meat and sea food, not eating dairy and eggs, or/and avoiding nuts and seeds. These are no healthy ways to slow down nail growth. Actually your nails can never stop growing, just like your hair.

How do you stop nails from growing?

To keep your fingernails looking their best:

  1. Keep fingernails dry and clean. This prevents bacteria from growing under your fingernails.
  2. Practice good nail hygiene. Use a sharp manicure scissors or clippers.
  3. Use moisturizer.
  4. Apply a protective layer.
  5. Ask your doctor about biotin.

In healthy adults, average fingernail growth is about 3.5 millimeters per month — about the thickness of a ballpoint pen cap.

The most common procedure is a partial nail avulsion with matrixectomy. The toe is “frozen” with local anaesthetic, the nail spicule removed and chemical introduced to the nail matrix to permanently prevent that section of nail from growing back.

Although unsanitary, chronic nail biting (onychophagia) isn’t likely to cause long-term nail damage. As long as the nail bed remains intact, nail biting isn’t likely to interfere with fingernail growth. In fact, some research suggests that nail biting might even promote faster nail growth.

A hangnail only refers to the skin along the sides of the nail, not the nail itself. Hangnails are common.   1. Trim your toenails straight across. Don’t curve your nails to match the shape of the front of your toe.
  2. Keep toenails at a moderate length. Trim toenails so they’re even with the tips of your toes.
  3. Wear shoes that fit properly.
  4. Wear protective footwear.
  5. Check your feet.
