Can I change wheel size on my car?

When changing the car’s original wheels and tires, the general rule of thumb is that you can go up or down by one inch. For example, if your car is currently riding on 17-in wheels, you can reduce the size to 16 inches. Many times, a sport package option will increase both tire size and the suspension’s stiffness.

Unless of very high quality, replacing 16 inch with 18 inch wheels will usually lead to decreased performance due to the increase in unsprung weight. You can’t just change wheels. And the tyre profile is quite seperate to the size of the wheels. Some makes use different suspension parts to ensure clearance.

Can you go up in wheel size?

Are 16 inch wheels good?

AAA – Yes, wheel size has a big impact on ride comfort. The smaller 16-inch wheels come with tyres that have larger sidewalls that act as cushions against sharp edges on the roads, like ruts and potholes. While 17-inch tyres look much better, the shorter sidewalls aren’t as good in filtering out road shocks.
