Are white cats rare?

Pure white cats are fairly rare in the general cat population, as they require a gene that hides every other possible coat color and pattern in a cat’s genetic makeup. They also tend to have light-colored eyes. If you’re looking to adopt one of these striking felines, here are 10 breeds that produce white cats.

Why are cats paws different colors?

They can even be different colors. Paw pad color is usually related to the color or pattern of a cat’s coat. For instance, in the Ocicat breed, chocolate-colored cats have chocolate-pink paw pads, fawn cats have pink pads and blue cats have blue (gray) pads. Cats use their paws for grooming and for drinking water.

Why do cats look like they’re wearing socks?

That’s probably why some pet owners delight in pointing out that white cat feet sometimes look as though the animal is wearing socks. Do white cats have more problems?

Short answer, no. White cats are no more prone to illness than any other cat. However, an albino cat may be more prone to medicial problems such as light sensitivity and skin conditions from a lack of pigment (just like humans).

Are white cats prone to health problems?

Like humans, cats with light or white coats are at an increased risk of developing sunburn—especially on their ears, eyelids, and nose. Because they’re more susceptible to sunburns, white cats also have a higher risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma or skin cancer.

The cells that give cat fur its color first appear as neural crest cells, which are located along what will become the back, Lyons said. Then, those cells slowly migrate down and around the body. Felines develop white feet, faces, chests and bellies when these cells don’t quite make it all the way.

Why do cats walk so quietly?

Silence is golden to cats. These stealthy, streamlined animals are born hunters, as well as being prey to other species. So, cats move quietly so that they can sneak up on prey and remain undetected by predators. Stealthy walking involves minimizing the weight and pressure set on the ground.

Are white cats smart?

Cats with white fur are often thought of as less intelligent, but that predisposition is due to the fact that cats with blue eyes are actually deaf. Instead of coming when called or responding to their name being said, white cats will typically just stare at you!
