Are names gendered?

Names become associated with gender as they re applied, not the reverse. Names have become associated with a specific sex because people just started using those names for their boy/girl and after enough time they become either masculine or feminine, sometimes unisex if used equally for both genders.

What is a gendered language?

It doesn’t have a masculine or a feminine for nouns, unless they refer to biological sex (e.g., woman, boy, Ms etc). So gendered language is commonly understood as language that has a bias towards a particular sex or social gender.

Why are some names unisex?

Parents may name their child in honor of a person of another sex, which – if done widely – can result in the name becoming unisex. Some masculine and feminine names are homophones, pronounced the same for both sexes but spelled differently.
