Are crucifixes idolatry?

The short answer: No. It is not idolatry for a Christian or any person to wear a cross, as long as they are not using it as an object of worship.

Why is the cross not considered an idol?

Abrahamic religions do not have idols because their god is the “:invisible god” with no shape or form to represent. Christians do not think their God “looks like” a cross. The cross is just a symbol and focal point for thinking about their God.

In the bedroom, the crucifix will generally be placed on any available wall and in the children’s room, a tiny crucifix may be tied to the curtain.

Christians did not begin wearing the cross around their necks until after the crucifixion was no longer the primary source of capital punishment; therefore, it is not equivalent to a modern-day person wearing a miniature death symbol as some have suggested.
