Payment of tithe is obligatory to Christian faithful. An Old Testament commandment, it is made popular by Malachi 3:10, where Christians are required to give 10 per cent of their income to God through the priest. If faithfully adhered to, the act is said to attract rich blessings from the Lord.

The Lord has commanded us to pay tithing. In return, He promises to “open … the windows of heaven, and pour … out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it” (Malachi 3:10). His blessings, however, come in His own way and in His own time and can be spiritual or temporal.

The bible says a lot about money, and every bit of it is twisted by modern preachers. “Tithe” means “tenth”. The Jews were commanded to give a tenth of various crops to the temple. It was not a tenth of all income, only a tenth of the increase of certain crops and only at harvest time.
