How did they get footage of atomic bombs?

Several types of cameras were used, but the standard ones were the Bell & Howell 16mm using a special emulsion to account for the x-ray exposure; film canisters were also lined with lead. Another type used was the Rapatronic camera. Shutter speeds were electrically controlled remotely from other bunker locations.

Can diamonds survive a nuclear explosion?

Diamonds are flammable. They cant even withstand a blowtorch. They’re just carbon. They are very hard and can deal with a great amount of mechanical force, but fire will chemically consume the carbon very easily.

What are the lines after a nuclear bomb?

The streamers you see in the films of atmospheric nuclear weapons tests are smoke trails made by rockets fired just before the detonation. The trails were used to make a sort of graph paper in the air for recording the propagation of shock waves and wind currents from the explosion.

GET INSIDE

  1. Get inside the nearest building to avoid radiation.
  2. Remove contaminated clothing and wipe off or wash unprotected skin if you were outside after the fallout arrived.
  3. Go to the basement or middle of the building.
  4. Stay inside for 24 hours unless local authorities provide other instructions.

Can a nuke melt diamond?

No. Diamonds are brittle things, and a shockwave will shatter it. Just dropping it onto the floor would break it.

Why don’t bombs ever touch anything when they explode?

They don’t. In order to make good records, the super high speed cameras were mounted on fixtures that had a clear view of the device and were dropped a split second before the explosion. Thus they were in midair not touching anything at the instant of explosion.

How dangerous is the dust on the inside of cameras?

The dust and blown objects look worse than they really are. The radioactivity induced into the cameras is negligible since this is caused by neutrons which last only for a few seconds. The heat is the worst part but is for a short time and the cameras will have heat shields.

How can I protect my house from nuclear radiation?

Pick a place in your home that can serve as a nuclear shelter. If you live in a detatched home, shelter in the basement. If you live in a condo or in an apartment building, go to the lowest part of the building, and in the most central part of the building, to filter out the radiation from outside.
