Should I study for the PSAT as a sophomore?

In conclusion, sophomores don’t need any additional preparation for the PSAT, and even juniors don’t need specific PSAT prep; studying for the SAT or ACT will suffice. This is why we don’t recommend study books, courses, or even tutoring specifically geared toward the PSAT.

Why am I taking the PSAT as a sophomore?

In addition to predicting SAT scores, PSAT scores have some predictive correlation with your future AP test scores. As a result, some high schools use sophomore-year PSAT scores to determine students’ readiness for AP classes and to approve AP course placement.

If your child is in 10th grade, they can benefit from taking the PSAT 10 in several ways. It identifies their academic strengths and weaknesses early in high school, when there’s plenty of time to improve before college. It lets them know which Advanced Placement (AP) courses they’re most likely to do well in.

Does the sophomore PSAT matter?

Your sophomore year PSAT scores aren’t as important as your PSAT scores from your junior year when you’ll be able to compete for National Merit, but they’re still useful. This can help you gauge how much studying you’ll need to do to qualify for National Merit and/or meet your SAT score goals.

What grade level should you take the PSAT?

The PSAT is the most well-known of the two tests, and many schools offer it in 10th and 11th grade. Students who take the PSAT in 11th grade and score well may qualify for scholarships, including the highly competitive National Merit award.
