How long does it take to get into DEVGRU?
From BUD/S to Green Team the SEAL Teams suffer serious injuries and sometimes deaths. So only after a rigorous selection process and six months of dangerous training and constant observation will someone, who was already a Navy SEAL, be accepted into an operational squad within DEVGRU.
How many squadrons are in DEVGRU?
DEVGRU / ST6 is organized into 4 line squadrons codenamed Red Squadron, Blue Squadron, Gold Squadron and Silver Squadron. Each line squadron contains around 50 operators and each squadron is divided into 3 troops. Troops will typically be divided into teams of assaulters and snipers.
Are officers in DEVGRU?
Yes, DEVGRU Officers go into combat with lower rank Enlisted SEALs.
How hard is it to join SEAL Team 6 (DEVGRU)?
The SEAL community is rather small, so a good chance everyone knows you or has heard of you. The operators who are willing to try to join SEAL Team 6 (DEVGRU) must first spend 5 years in one of the regular SEAL teams; then, they can apply.
Regular SEALs select candidates out of BUD/w and SQT – most come from the street or Big Navy. DEVGRU selects from the most outstanding SEALs that have at least 5 years of operational experience. Regular SEAL training focuses on their main mission – direct action.
In order to join DEVGRU, you need to graduate BUD/s and serve in one of the SEAL teams for at least 5 years. Once those five years have been completed, the SEAL can apply to go to assessment and selection with Green Team.
What is the most famous DEVGRU SEAL Team?
Red Squadron Red Squadron is one of the most publicly exposed DEVGRU / SEAL Team 6 squadrons because of the public appearances of the two former operators (Marc Bissonette and his book ‘No Easy Day’ and Rob O’Neill, a man who claims to have shot Usama Bin Laden in Operation Neptune Spear).
