How many pounds over can you be in UFC?

Current UFC Weight Cutting Rules For non-title bouts, they cannot weigh more than 1 pound over the limit, whereas for title fights they cannot be more than half a pound above the maximum.

Why did the UFC add weight classes?

One of the main reasons why UFC weight classes were added is because they needed to be added to legitimize the sport. If they were going to become more respected and add more fans, they needed to make weight divisions.

Can you be underweight UFC?

Yes. You can come 5 lbs below the weight limit; that doesn’t make a difference for the promoter or the sanctioning body. It does however severely hampers once chances of winning the fight, as they are giving up some serious weight. Saying that, you cannot come above the weight limit for a title fight.

Why is UFC divided by weight?

The reason for that is because the difference between lightweight (155 pounds) and welterweight (170 pounds) is “too big”. Some fighters are too big for 155 pounds limit, but also too small compared to some fighters in the 170-pound division.

Why are there weight divisions in UFC?

They already added the tiny guys division, and 265 weight limit for heavy weight is really not that much and it prevents lot of big guys(as in tall and heavy) from getting in there unless they lose weight.

What happens if UFC fighters dont make weight?

The fighter who missed weight is fined 20\% of their match purse – 30\% if the difference is bigger – and the amount is awarded to their opponent for agreeing to the fight. The percentage is mutually agreed upon by UFC and the athletic commission supervising the event.
