How do people cope with living in a new culture when experiencing cultural shock?

Coping strategies

  1. Admit frankly that these impacts exist.
  2. Learn the rules of living in your host country.
  3. Get involved in some aspect of the new culture.
  4. Take time to learn the language.
  5. Take care of yourself.
  6. Travel.
  7. Make friends and develop relationships.
  8. Maintain contact with friends and family back home.

What kind of culture shock have you felt?

What are the types of culture shock? Culture shock is typically divided into four stages: the honeymoon, frustration, adaptation, and acceptance stage. These periods are characterized by feelings of excitement, anger, homesickness, adjustment, and acceptance.

What is reverse culture shock?

Reverse culture shock, or re-entry, is simply a common reaction to returning home from studying abroad. It is an emotional and psychological stage of re-adjustment, similar to your initial adjustment to living abroad.

What is re-entry or reverse culture shock?

Re-entry or reverse culture shock can happen once you return home after living abroad for an extended period. You may quickly realise that things are very different from when you left, and feel like you no longer belong as your family, friends and even your home town have changed and moved on without you.

What should I do with my NRI savings account when returning home?

Once you return home, convert the NRI accounts to normal savings account and start paying taxes on your interests accrued in India. There is nothing amazingly different about job hunts in India, but my experience suggests there is still a strong gain to be made from networking, here.

How do I transfer money from us to India as NRI?

The next thing, on your list, would be to get your hard earned, US Govt. taxed, money back home. Get your NRI accounts set up on any Indian bank and use ICICI, Axis Bank or many like them, to transfer your money to your NRI accounts. A tip is to keep an eye out for a good day for the exchange rate in favor of Rupees.
