What is wheel Case pressure in turbine?

In case of steam turbine, there is a chamber on the balance side. Between fisrt stage, Impilse stage, nrozzle and balance Piston is where it is. For the same load on the turbine, if wheel chamber pressure goes up, it means turbine fouling.

What is Balance Piston in steam turbine?

Balance piston is exposed to high pressure on one side and discharge pressure/low pressure on other side. The steam enter in between the balance piston and first stage of turbine and give a reaction force to the balancing piston opposite to the axial thrust hence it counter balance the turbine shaft.

1st stage pressure is a reliable and fast measurement of relative steam flow to the turbine without suffering pressure drop penalties from a flow nozzle. It is a critical measurement in load control loops, feedwater/drum level control loops, and drum pressure.
