What is eccentricity shaft?

An eccentricity is one of the major factors that affect the entire system by causing whirling of the shaft and premature failure of the shaft at high vibration condition. Such high vibration condition can be controlled by an important technique called vibration-monitoring technique.

How do you find the eccentricity of a shaft?

Eccentricity is normally measured P/P (Peak to Peak) to agree with previously established conventions. The actual excursion from shaft centerline caused by bow would be one half that measurement or the 0/P (Zero to Peak) measurement.

What is thrust bearing in steam turbine?

The purpose of the turbine thrust bearing is to provide a positive axial location for the turbine rotors relative to the cylinders. As thrust pressure is applied, the wedge narrows and oil is forced to the restricted end. This ensures that metal-to-metal contact between the pads and the thrust collar is prevented.

What is eccentric operation?

Eccentric turning, also known as offset turning, is a type of lathe operation. It is typically used to machine parts with features that are not concentric to the spindle axis, such as the eccentric drive of a steam engine and a crankshaft.

What is eccentricity vibration?

Eccentricity is defined as the offset between the axis of rotation and the axis of symmetry. Eccentricity can take place in different types of mechanical elements, such as pulleys, gears and in any relative positioning between two concentric pieces, as for example the rotor and the stator of an electric motor.

What is rotor eccentricity?

A rotor eccentricity is a condition of unequal air gap that exists between the stator and the rotor [5]. Air- gap eccentricity can occur in the form of static or dynamic eccentricity. In the case of a static eccentricity, the position of minimum radial air- gap length is fixed in space.

What is pedestal in turbine?

BEARING PEDESTALS FRONT BEARING PEDESTAL : THE FRONT BEARING PEDESTAL IS LOCATED AT THE TURBINE SIDE END OF THE TURBOGENERATOR UNIT. ITS FUNCTION IS TO GIVE SUPPORT HP TURBINE CASING AND BEAR THE TURBINE ROTOR.

What is the difference between journal bearing and thrust bearing?

Journal bearings support radial loads (perpendicular to the axis of rotation). Thrust bearings support axial loads (along the axis of rotation).

What is eccentric machining?

What is eccentricity motor?

What is eccentricity and why is it important in a turbine?

Operators use eccentricity measurements to determine when a combination of slow roll and heating have reduced the rotor eccentricity to the point where the turbine can safely be brought up to speed without damage from excessive vibration or rotor to stator contact.

What is eccentricity of the rotor?

Turbine Eccentricity. A rotor which has been sitting idle during overhaul or has been inadvertently stopped during coastdown for an extended period will develop a bow or bend.

What is shaft eccentricity and why is it important?

Shaft Eccentricity plays a very important role as part of a Turbine Supervisory Instrumentation (TSI) System on large steam turbines and should be included in retro-fit plans when at all possible.

What is eccentricity and why is it important?

eccentricity is the primary factor limiting speeds, and, therefore the efficiency of turbine systems. When you consider how much of our electricity is produced from and how much fuel is burned to transport vehicles using turbines, the importance of such a parameter cannot be overstated.
