How does an airline alliance work?

An airline alliance means you can earn frequent flyer miles on one airline and redeem them on any of the other airlines in the alliance. Through the alliance groups, airlines can market seats for partner airlines on their website.

Code sharing is a partnership between two airlines that allows an airline to place its two-letter identification code on the flight schedules of another airline. Put simply, code sharing allows airlines to sell tickets to destinations they do not fly to.
