The trade route of the valley passed through Nuwakot. It could be an appropriate site for collecting information about the valley. Gorkhali obtained fertile land for cultivating fruits, good grains and green vegetables. They were benefited by obtaining land situated at higher altitude suitable for having forts on it.

How did Gorkha conquer Nuwakot finally?

Conquest of Nuwakot Gorkha was now made secure from all sides. Both Prithvi and Kalu Pande thought that it was the right time to invade Nuwakot. Under the command of Prithvi himself, the Gorkha troops attacked Nuwakot from three sides on 26 September 1744 CE. At last, the Gorkha troops won a victory over Belkot.

On 20 January 1764, 3,300 of Gurgin Khan’s soldiers launched an attack on Makwanpur palace. The Gorkhalis, under Prithvi Narayan’s brother Nandu Shah, held off the invaders. Supplemented by reinforcements, the Gorkhalis counter-attacked Gurgin Khan in the dead of the night while his soldiers were asleep.
