Should both parents take equal responsibility?

That means that both should take an active role and ensure that the child’s needs are met. It is not only important to not cause a hardship on one parent with all the responsibilities and duties, but it is also good for the child. Children need both of their parents, and what they can share with them.

University studies have shown that having both parents actively involved in a child’s life can provide significant social, psychological, and health benefits, and the stability of having a relationship with both parents can provide greater opportunities for children to find their own paths to success.

To break the pre-conceived notions, equal parenting is not about sharing baby-care responsibilities only; it includes housework, breadwinning and some me-time as well.

On the other hand, though, quitting your job to be a stay-at-home parent carries a number of potential risks. And when that parent is dad, the drawbacks can, in at least one case, be graver. Just as one might hesitate to advocate for women to leave the workforce to become a stay-at-home mom, a similar case can go for men.

Only about a quarter of two-parent households now consist of a full-time working father and a mother who is not employed. By comparison, in 1970, both parents worked full time in just 31\% of two-parent homes, while a full-time working dad and a stay-at-home mom made up a 46\% plurality of them.
