Is Cannot not a double negative?

Real-Life Examples of Double Negatives A double negative is usually created by combining the negative form of a verb (e.g., cannot, did not, have not) with a negative pronoun (e.g., nothing, nobody), a negative adverb (e.g., never, hardly), or a negative conjunction (e.g., neither/nor).

Where do we use unless?

We use the conjunction unless to mean ‘except if’. The clause which follows unless is a subordinate clause (sc): it needs a main clause (mc) to make a complete sentence. When unless comes before the main clause, we use a comma: Unless [SC]it rains, [MC]we’ll go for a picnic by the river tomorrow.

How do you use unless examples?

  1. You will damage your health unless you stop smoking. = you will damage your health if you do not stop smoking.
  2. Unless she was working late, she would be here. = If she was not working, she would would be here.

Can we use unless and not unless in the same grammatical situation?

Both ‘Until’ and ‘Unless’ are generally used as conjunctions to connect the sentences in English. Unless is used, when the condition is set, and is already considered negative form in connectors, so don’t use ‘Not’ with Unless sentence.
