Is PSAT important for international students?
The Preliminary SAT (PSAT) is a standardized test that provides an opportunity for international students to practice taking the SAT. The PSAT is administered by USIEF. It is important that you begin test preparation well in advance. An examination fee needs to be paid to take each of these tests.
How do you know if you qualify for National Merit Scholarship?
To determine who qualifies for National Merit, NMSC uses a scale called the Selection Index. To get this, NMSC adds your Math, Reading, and Writing section scores, which each fall between 8 and 38, and then multiplies that sum by 2. Thus, the PSAT NMSC Selection Index ranges from 48 to 228.
What do you need on the PSAT to get National Merit?
Overall, you need to get a section score in the 30s for each section on the PSAT to compete for National Merit. Again, aim for a few points higher than the minimum, as cutoffs can vary somewhat from year to year.
Can international students get PSAT scholarships?
Only this year, as a junior, did I find out the PSAT was also a test for university scholarships. However, international students like me are not eligible for the scholarships or the program. It should be the students’ choice whether or not they want to take the PSAT.
How are National Merit semifinalists notified?
