In general, employers have the power to fire employees for any lawful reason–including for what they post on social media. These include laws prohibiting discrimination and retaliation, and laws protecting whistleblowers and employees who complain about workplace conditions.
Never, ever, ever post photos of your students on social media! Each parent has their own personal beliefs about posting their child’s likeness online. It is not your place to post their children online. You are also violating a student’s privacy by doing this.
What is considered slander on Facebook?
Reputation-damaging lies that are spoken aloud or communicated orally on Facebook are considered slander. Livestreams and videos, for instance, can be slanderous if they include defamatory statements.
Teachers can enhance classroom activities with social media. Teachers can use social networking to help their students connect and collaborate on a deeper level. These networks can enhance student relationships as well, giving socially anxious or introverted students a comfortable way to interact with their classmates.
What can a teacher get fired for?
Tenure Protections. Tenured teachers can be fired for incompetence, insubordination, immorality, moral turpitude or neglect of duty. Some states allow districts to fire tenured teachers for other reasons, such as supplying false information when applying for the job or advocating a revolution against the government.
Can you be fired for your social media posts?
Private companies and employers can discipline or fire an employee for what they post on social media. There are, however, a few exceptions to this rule. In general, employers cannot fire you for posting: Truthful statements about working conditions, like harassment or unsafe working conditions.
