Is kanji easier if you know Chinese?

Sometimes I need to remember the simplified version of the character or a different meaning/usage for the same character in Japanese. But I feel is easy because I already “know” the character. But Chinese pronunciation and tones are hard to learn, no matter if you speak Japanese or not.

Is learning Japanese easier if you know Chinese?

Chinese uses the same grammatical structure as English: subject-verb-object. However, Japanese katakana and hiragana are basically alphabets, making them much easier to learn than the Chinese writing system. The third Japanese writing system, kanji, is much more similar to the Chinese writing system.

Yes and No. Kanji is 漢字 which is literally “Chinese writing”, and that is also the same as Hanzi in Mandarin Chinese and Hanja in Korean. Notice that the same characters have different pronunciations.
