Why is one side of the Moon dark?

The ‘dark side’ of the Moon refers to the hemisphere of the Moon that is facing away from the Earth. In reality it is no darker than any other part of the Moon’s surface as sunlight does in fact fall equally on all sides of the Moon.

There isn’t a “dark side” of the moon, if by that you mean a part that is permanently dark. The moon has a day-and-night cycle just like the Earth. However, if you are talking about the FAR side of the moon, the answer is no. One side of the moon permanently faces the Earth, and we only ever see the one side.
