What makes Nioh different from Dark Souls?

4 Dark Souls: One Giant Map One of the biggest differences between these two punishing titles is the method in which their worlds are designed. All of the FromSoftware games are built as one interconnected region while Nioh is separated into different levels that eventually make up an overall larger map.

Is Nioh as good as bloodborne?

All told, combat in Nioh feels a lot like Bloodborne but it has enough of its own mechanics to feel fresh and unique at the same time. It’s clearly using many of the ideas in the Souls games and making them its own. Magic in Nioh is more limited than in Dark Souls, but more expansive than Bloodborne.

With Nioh 2 still quite a few weeks away let’s take a look at 10 similar games to play until then.

“Dark Souls with samurais”. This is what most people use to describe Nioh and while the game has a lot of unique things going on it’s still gets enough from dark souls to be compared to it. Much was said about the subject already but no conclusion was achieved and I don’t think it will ever be.

How is the combat in Nioh?

Combat in Nioh feels a lot like a Souls game. It’s rarely, if ever, as slow as the original Dark Souls and would be better served by a comparison to either Bloodborne or Dark Souls III. The basics are very similar. You have magic, melee and ranged options.

Why isn’t Nioh 2 another souls-like game?

These reasons explain why Nioh 2 isn’t another Souls-like game. Nioh 2 is longer than any Dark Souls game if you do the extra content, which is almost impossible to avoid. Sub missions are almost required since the game has absurd level demands that do not fit the recommended levels.

What do you think about the original Nioh?

Nioh was meant to be a more streamlined and approachable game for those who were interested in the Dark Souls format. That concept was clear from the beginning as it had a lot of story, the world was broken into levels, and the online was more integral to the game itself. It was supposed to be a game for Demon’s Souls fanatics, but a bit easier.
