Why did so many grunge artists die?

Many of these deaths can be attributed to heroin. Heroin has been a problem for musicians at least since jazzers of the 1940s, probably longer. There was a big heroin problem in the Seattle music scene and many of the most influential musicians of the early 90s came from the Seattle Grunge scene.

Is grunge a dead genre?

No. Generally, “grunge” is associated with a group of Seattle bands that were around between between 1986 and 1992. They hung out together, influenced each other, and created the sounds associated with the word “grunge.”

How long did grunge last for?

Although most grunge bands had disbanded or faded from view by the late 1990s, they influenced modern rock music, as their lyrics brought socially conscious issues into pop culture and added introspection and an exploration of what it means to be true to oneself.

Is grunge still popular?

Grunge music is still happening, but like everything else that breaks big and then gets assimilated into normal culture, it doesnt turn heads or inspire awe like it did during its hayday. And no. Grunge will not make a return to the limelight in the 2020s.

What happened to grunge music?

After grunge had withered away and been replaced by post grunge, Alice In Chains frontman Layne Staley died in his home on the 8th anniversary of Kurt’s death, though his body wasn’t found until two weeks later. And before grunge had even reached the masses, rising star Andrew Wood of Mother Love Bone died just as his music career began in 1990.

What is the difference between punk and grunge?

Grunge was simply a rebirth of the punk movement, which was a rebellion against the musical sophistication that rock and roll had taken on with and after the Beatles. Emotional expression was more important to the punks. Grunge, like punk was about being able to express yourself with relatively primitive music.

Is this the first grunge icon we’ve lost?

This is, sadly, not the first grunge icon we’ve lost. The world famously mourned the death of Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain back in 1994, at the height of grunge’s popularity.

What do all of the grunge icons have in common?

They were all part of the movement that became known as grunge. The obvious connection they all share is that they were each not only in major grunge bands, but were the frontmen and vocalists for those bands.
