What kind of telescope do you need to see the Andromeda Galaxy?

The Hubble Space Telescope easily resolves millions of individual stars in an outer region of the Andromeda Galaxy, also known as M31.

Can you see Andromeda with a small telescope?

The Andromeda Galaxy looks great through smaller telescope of, say, 4 inches in diameter. A small telescope scope reveals that the famous elongated glow is just the core of the galaxy, an ellipse approximately 30×10 arcminutes in size. The fainter spiral arms sit outside the core. A low power shows the galaxy off best.

Can we see planets in Andromeda?

A star in the Andromeda galaxy has a “companion” with six times the mass of Jupiter. There’s no end to the ingenuity of these astronomers. We’ve now spotted some 300 extra-solar planets, with rate of discovery increasing at an extraordinary rate.

Can we see Andromeda Galaxy from India?

Answer: Yes, you can see a few other galaxies without using a telescope! The nearby Andromeda Galaxy, also called M31, is bright enough to be seen by the naked eye on dark, moonless nights. The Andromeda Galaxy is the only other (besides the Milky Way) spiral galaxy we can see with the naked eye.

Can you see another galaxy with a telescope?

Galaxies are some of the most distant objects we can observe. While most planets, stars, and nebulae are usually pretty nearby to us, we can observe galaxies that are millions of light-years away. Even if a galaxy is bright, the most you might typically see is its core with a 4-inch telescope.

Can you see Andromeda galaxy with binoculars?

Binoculars are an excellent choice for beginners to observe the Andromeda galaxy, because they are so easy to point. As you stand beneath a dark sky, locate the galaxy with your eye first. Then slowly bring the binoculars up to your eyes so that the galaxy comes into binocular view.

But a larger, more quality instrument will allow you to “zoom in”, and reveal countless craters, rills and mountains. Note that even through a very large 20″ amateur telescope the resolution will be about 0.35 arcseconds, which means the smallest object you can see on the lunar surface is over 500 meters.

What size telescope do I need to see a star field?

A larger scope gathers more light, so you can observe fainter objects. The faintest star you can see through your telescope — “limiting magnitude” — depends on the size of the objective. A star field is shown above through a 2-inch (bottom left) and a 4-inch (bottom right).

What do you like most about our Deep Space Telescope?

What we enjoyed about this deep space telescope is the sturdy table-top base. It made it very easy to set up and operate. The base is a manual altazimuth with smooth controls for the tracking of celestial objects.
