Can the military train me to be a doctor?

To become a medical doctor in the military, you have two choices: the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) or the Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP). If you take the HPSP path, you will attend a civilian med school and are commissioned in the U.S. military after graduating.

Is it necessary to work in army after AFMC?

Hi, In AFMC you need to sign a bond of 27 lakhs which is now hiked to 30 lakhs stating that you need to serve minimum of 7 years (including 1 year of internship) and upto 3 years of field posting in armed forces. Note- you are not allowed to pursue pg in short term commission(7 years).

Do doctors in the army go into combat?

Doctors (along with other medical corps members) are non-combatants which means that they cannot engage in offensive military actions. They can defend themselves and their patients if necessary, but are not allowed offensive weapons.

Do Army doctors see combat?

They’d only see combat directly if something went wrong — such as the enemy breaking through the front lines or sending an infiltration party to attack the hospital. The RAMC does have personnel serving directly with combat units.

After completing MBBS from AFMC, the intern is commissioned into the AMC as either a Lieutenant (Army), Surgeon Sub-Lieutenant (Navy) or as Flying Officer (Air Force) and are attached to various Military Hospitals to complete their Internship.

What are the requirements to join the Army Medical Corps?

To enter the Army’s medical corps after you’ve earned a degree, you generally must be between 21 and 46 years old. In addition, you must take and pass the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery written examination.
