How do they picture the universe?

The wide-field camera takes large images of the universe. When solar radiation interferes with ultraviolet light, scientists use the solar blind camera, which captures hot stars and other ultraviolet-emitting bodies. The high-resolution camera could take pictures inside galaxies.

Is the universe logarithmic?

One newer and equally impressive illustration shows the universe’s scale in a vertical image, below. It logarithmically zooms out from infinitesimal “quantum foam” of the fabric of space (a bewildering 10-32 meters in scale) all the way up to the edges of the observable universe (which is about 1058 larger).

What is the heaviest object in the universe?

What is this? Our sun is one of the largest and heaviest objects in the universe, weighing in at 1.989 x 1030 kg. To get an idea of how big this is, this is 330,000 times the weight (mass) of Earth. In our solar system, the sun is by far the heaviest object.

Is there a baby picture of the universe?

NEW IMAGE OF INFANT UNIVERSE REVEALS ERA OF FIRST STARS, AGE OF COSMOS, AND MORE NASA today released the best “baby picture” of the Universe ever taken, which contains such stunning detail that it may be one of the most important scientific results of recent years.

Why is the universe not made up of elements?

First, the whole universe is not made up of elements. Elements are made of smaller particles. So these smaller particles (and others) zip through space too and are not elements. And some things found in nature (which can be quite large) are made of conglomerations of these smaller (or related particles).

Can we describe the universe with unprecedented accuracy?

“We’ve captured the infant Universe in sharp focus, and from this portrait we can now describe the Universe with unprecedented accuracy,” said Dr. Charles L. Bennett of the Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt Md., and the WMAP Principal Investigator. “The data are solid, a real gold mine.”

What happens when an extrasolar planet and its host star?

An extrasolar planet and its host star pass between Earth and a distant star, causing the distant star to change in brightness as shown by the graph at left. Which of the pictures at right could represent the exoplanet-star system and the direction it is traveling?
