Why are some countries hot and others cold?
Countries, towns and cities located around the equator experience hot weather throughout the year. Countries that are further North or South of the equator experience a change in seasons, when hot weather follows cold weather. This happens because the Earth circles around the sun on a tilted axis.
Why do the regions around the equator have the warmest climate?
Why is it hot at the Equator and cold at the poles? Due to the tilt of the Earth, the Equator is closer to the sun so receives more of its energy. The Equator has a smaller surface area so heats up quickly compared to the poles. There is less atmosphere to pass through at the Equator compared to the poles.
Do colder climates make us more productive?
Capital chief economist Shane Oliver said colder climates tend to be more conducive to productive work. ‘Hotter countries tend to have lower living standards. It’s all to do with extreme temperatures making it harder to get work done.’
Are cold countries richer than warm countries?
Cold countries aren’t inherently richer than warm ones. Winter in Mongolia reaches -15 to -35 regularly and we don’t generally talk of them as being an economic powerhouse (nor Kazakhstan for that matter).
Why do people live in colder climates?
According to Australia Youtubers, Economics Explained, the main reason is that in the formative years of society, people in colder climates needed much higher levels of planning and co-operation or they would have perished in winter.

The first 5 civilizations – Sumer, Nile valley, Indus Valley, Yellow river valley, Norte Chico – were all in subtropics.
