It is a feature that has been out since August 2017 and is available on all Models S, X and 3. In essence, when one of their cars is left unattended Sentry mode uses the multitude of built in cameras to watch its surroundings for potential threats.
Does Tesla record without sentry mode?
No. To protect your privacy, Sentry Mode recordings are not transmitted to Tesla. For 2018 and newer model year vehicles (with software version 2020.48. 5 or newer), recordings are saved to onboard memory and can be viewed directly from the vehicle’s touchscreen.
