Hymenal tags can also refer to tissue that remains after the hymen breaks. These tags are almost always benign, and they usually don’t cause any discomfort. However, if the tags linger — or appear later in life — removal procedures are available.
As they enlarge, though, skin tags may be prone to irritation. They can also get caught on clothing and other items, such as jewelry, which can make them bleed.
How long do Hymenal tags last?
Although hymenal tags are not uncommon in newborn girls, there is a paucity of literature on this condition. Few photo images of hymenal tags have been published. We report the case of a four-month-old girl with a large hymenal tag noted at birth. Approximately 30\% of hymenal tags may persist at three years of age.

Your hymen is located toward the bottom side of the opening of your vagina. The hymen can also be called a hymenal ring if it encircles the outer walls of the vaginal opening. Hymens can have many shapes and forms.
How do I stop bleeding from a skin tag?
Apply direct pressure on the cut or wound with a clean cloth, tissue, or piece of gauze until bleeding stops. If blood soaks through the material, don’t remove it. Put more cloth or gauze on top of it and continue to apply pressure.
Although it is usually possible to recognize a stalk that attaches the skin tag to the underlying skin, very small skin tags may appear as raised bumps on the skin. If a skin tag is twisted on its blood supply it may turn red or black. Skin tags may bleed if caught on clothing or are otherwise torn.
What is the Hymenal Caruncle?
Vaginal birth After childbirth, the hymen may develop hymenal caruncles, which are ridges, extra skin, or small growths. Women with existing hymenal tags might find that their tags disappear after a vaginal delivery.
How do you get Hymenal skin tags?
Friction. Doctors accept skin-against-skin friction and skin-against-clothing friction as a common cause for vaginal skin tags. Skin tags can be found in areas of the body where a lot of friction occurs, such as around the neck, under breasts, and in between or just below your buttock folds.
Will skin tags that developed during pregnancy go away? Many skin tags will shrink and may go away on their own after you give birth. If they don’t go away completely, they should at least become smaller and easier to remove (should you choose to do so).
