When fans talk of canon or continuity, which are used somewhat interchangeably in these circles, they mean the works concerning a character or franchise which accurately represent what that character or franchise is supposed to be as of the present time.

Perpetua was one of The Hands from the greater Omniverse. She was the first creator of the Multiverse and the mother of the Monitor, Anti-Monitor and the World Forger; Perpetua was also considered the most feared being in the greater Omniverse, out of all her brothers and sisters tending the infinite Multiverses.

Dr. Manhattan is an adaptation of Charlton Comics’ Captain Atom. Alan Moore meant to use Charlton characters for his tale, when DC comics got rights to them. However, he was banned from doing so, as they wanted to introduce the characters to the DC universe.

Perpetua’s battle with the Darkest Knight just ended in a major defeat — with the ancient being seemingly killed by the remnants of the prison that once contained her. After creating three sons (the Monitor, the Anti-Monitor, and the World-Forger) to help her, Perpetua was eventually betrayed.
