Is NCAA more popular than NFL?

So why is the NFL still more popular than college football? First of all, it’s not a huge difference. A Gallup poll in 2017 gave a list of sports and asked respondents to say whether they were a fan of each one. Fifty-seven percent said they were fans of professional football*, and college football was 56 percent.

In addition to the history advantage, there are over 100 teams in the NCAA compared to only 32 in the NFL. Bottom line however, is even with the NCAA having almost four times as many teams as the NFL, we never see over 100,000 pack in for an NFL game as we do commonly in college games.

Sports provide free entertainment and a sense of belonging and pride to the citizens and students not just of the school but by extension the entire community. Sports provide a friendly rivalry with surrounding communities. That rivalry usually goes back for generations.
