Do pencil sharpener blades rust?

A good quality pencil sharpner blade will not rust since it would be made out of stainless steel and would have a long life. But cheaper ones tend to accumulate rust due to use of normal steel, which would rust after some time. If kept in the open, it would rust faster.

Can you use a rusty razor blade?

A rusty razor can still be very sharp. Use caution while scrubbing it. It is best to not allow a razor blade to get rusty in the first place, but if you do have a rusty blade that you would like to salvage, a careful soaking and scrubbing process will make it shine again. Rinse the razor so you can see the rust.

How do you remove a razor from a pencil sharpener?

Unscrew the tiny screw holding the blade into the sharpener and once it’s removed the blade will drop out. Do be careful of course, they’re sharp! The best way to get it out would be to get a piece of tape, apply it gently to the blade and then lift it off.

If you want to remove a damaged blade from a razor start by holding the flame of a lighter to each side of the razor for 15-20 seconds to soften the plastic around the blades. Then, grip one of the blades with a pair of needle-nose pliers, and pull on the blade with the pliers until it comes out.

How do you open a sharpener blade?

Flip the sharpener upside down to pop the blade out. With the screws gone, the blade should come out easily. Simply turn the sharpener upside down so the blade falls out. You may have to give it a little shake. Hold the sharpener close to the table so the blade doesn’t bounce when it comes out.

Start with a wire brush (Photo 1). Scrub partially rusted metal areas with a wire brush to remove flakes and powdery surface rust, then prime with a rust-inhibitive primer. Once done, you can paint over rust.
