A study in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that men had an average of 26 lbs. (12 kilograms) more skeletal muscle mass than women. Women also exhibited about 40 percent less upper-body strength and 33 percent less lower-body strength, on average, the study found. In general, men are also faster than women.

How does women’s upper body strength compare with men’s?

In measuring upper body strength in absolutes, a woman is about 55\% as strong as a man. In lower body absolute strength, a woman is 75\% as strong as a man. This difference is usually attributed to the similar daily usage of legs between men and women.

Why do girls not have upper body strength?

Because women, on average, possess about one-tenth the testosterone levels of men, it makes sense that they’d have more difficulty developing upper-body strength.
